I have started a new blog to celebrate being retired
You can find me here It's a New Day, It's a New Dawn, its a New Life
It's going to be a miscellany of life observations, crafting, learning new skills and that old chestnut, keeping healthy.
I hope you can pop in, it's been a long time....
Here you will find a hotch potch of thoughts, words and maybe some crafting thrown in now my MoJo has returned. Nice to see you, hope you call back again soon.
About Me
- Sheilagh
- I retired on March 11th 2014 after 26 years as a doctors receptionist. I am now looking forward to the freedom to enjoy my days doing anything I wish to. Spending time with family, catching up with friends. Playing in my Scrappy Shack, scrapbooking, cardmaking, art journalling, quilting, gardening, baking. Spending wonderful times with my beloved other half. I am so looking forward to this time in my life.

My Boy is Coming Home Not the Usual WOYWW
Conor is coming home....Conor is coming home.... Conor is coming home.....
Thank You Everyone who kept him in their prayers and thoughts during his tour of Afghanistan.
My soldier Grandson is in Cyprus at the moment en route back to the UK.
I say we are happy and grateful is an understatement.
We are more than Grateful. More than Happy.
Our boy was injured out on patrol and sustained four broken ribs.
But we did not allow our tears to flow, well not for too long.
Two boys he was out on patrol with are now double amputee's
so our tears and thoughts are for those boys and their families.
I think there may be some partying around here this weekend
God is Good

Trying....
I am still trying to produce a quilt for LillyBo but not getting very far. It will be done though. I am on late shift this week so will have at least 2 hours to spare each day to get myself and my nervous efforts sorted.
I am in the middle of trying to get my home and my craft space "She's Scrappy Shack" sorted. I have given myself 100 days to be able to see a difference, my shed has been temporarily re named "The Shed of Shame" I will say no more at the moment.....

Look What I Made.....
My first patchwork ever!!
I went to a class today and this is what I produced. My first ever piece of patchwork.
With help and advice from the lovely Ella at "Sew Simple" up at Lady Heyes.
I was not looking forward to the class to be honest, trying to get to know my new sewing machine was quite stressful and me and the bobbin did not get on at all!! The last time I sewed a seam I was 15 and hated needlework class at school.
But now I am very, very happy and I now know I am about to embark on yey another addiction.
All because I wanted to make something for LillBo Quilts, I did not realise what I was letting myself in for.Now I know I can have a lot of joyful satisfaction.

WOYWW
Here it is, my new toy/challenge.....
My gift from Ralph, I cannot keep up with the man.
From the moment I put my name down to make a quilt of Jo's Lilli-Bo Quilts, everything went mad. I went up to Sew Simple up at Lady Heyes to peruse and stroke the material up there and ask about sewing lessons and the next minute, Ralph is ordering this little beauty for me. I bought some lovely fat squares up there to play about with. So Yes Donna it is was a sewing machine:) It arrived last night and I cannot wait to have a play with it.
Just pop over to Mrs Dunnit's and have a look around world wide workdesks and be inspired.
Happy WOYWW

It Was Great News!!
Thank you for you prayers and thoughts, I am so much more than grateful.
Clair got Great News, the wide excision was clear of cancer! Yes I am smiling broadly today.
She must have check ups every three months for five years, so we know she will have the best of chances of beating Malignant Melanoma
So it is onwards and upwards now, I can relax and begin to enjoy this new year. Everything has been on hold really since November when I took ill and then a doctor felt a couple of Clair's moles were looking suspicious. She has had seven remved and one was malignant.
So we are both looking forward to getting on with life and living to the full. So watch this space, crafting is near the top of my To Do List!!
Thank you so much for your kindness xxx
PS I have been trying to thank everyone who commented but Blogger is not letting me do do on some blogs, so please accept my thanks from here, thank you with love xx

Not WOYWW
This is Not the usual WOYWW Post and I apologise if my post offends anyone.
I am requesting Prayers and Positive thoughts today for my beautiful daughter Clair as she goes for the results of her wide excision biopsy. Her appointment is at 3pm so if you can spare 30 seconds your thoughts and prayers would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

WOYWW
This is me trying to get my MoJo back, noseying at other workspaces is a great way to gain inspiration. Mind you on saying that, mine isn't at all today, but I am getting back in to the phenomenon that is WOYWW and will try to do better in the coming weeks.
Now to pop over to Mrs Dunnit's place where the magic begins...http://stamping-ground.blogspot.co.uk/

New Year Hopes
Happy New Year.
I am hoping with the new year comes new inspiration to get back to crafting. I have done nothing for months and have been wanting to sell all my crafting stuff. But since my health scare my family are insisting I try to get back to it. So here I am making a start. I am looking for inspiration and motivation out here in Blogland so if you have any to spare, please send it my way.
Thanks
Sheilagh :)

Update
Not much crafting being done, my mojo has emigrated and I am thinking of selling up.
Mike is fully recovered Thank The Lord.
Conor is due home for two weeks R&R on December 30th, so Christmas will be late in our family this year. We will celebrate Christ's birthday quietly and have our party when the boy is home.
I have just spent a week in hospital and now have a heart condition. I was discharged on Friday and I am having trouble coming to terms with what has happened. But hey, I'm alive, I have the chance to change some things, ie. weight and diet.
Thanks for calling by.

WOYWW
Yes it's me again, turning up intermittently, full of good intentions. Not had much time for crafting of any sort over the past couple of weeks.
But now my grandson Conor is in Afghanistan and I cannot sleep for thinking about him I thought, I will go a pay an early visit to WOYWW.
Here are some photo's of the finished book I made for Conor to take with
him. I gave it to him just before he left. My idea was to produce a book/photo album that a Second World War soldier may have cobbled together. My family and friends thought it was fabulous, but they are not crafters of any sort.
I am quite pleased with it, a very personal creation made with so much love, there were tears shed on several occasions over the weeks. Conor was very touched astounded at the secrecy there had been in the weeks leading up to his being deployed and no one had let the cat out of the bag so to speak. The whole family contributed with photo's and letters and even the youngest didn't say anything to him about it.
This is the first book I have ever made, it is far from prefect. But made with love and pride and filled with so many family hopes and good wishes it should keep him safe until he is home again in
April 2013.

Please Keep the Prayers Rising
When Mike got to theatre they did an in depth scan and they couldn't find anything!
They did not operate, but he is still in severe pain. They are going to do more tests and take him to theatre again on Friday.
I believe in Miracles, please keep Praying.

WOYWW 166

Still working in the kitchen, my album for my grandson is coming along slowly. I have been taking my time so as not to make any mistakes, but guess what, I made a mistake!! I stuck the outer hinges right down. No where for the covers to fit, so I have come up with this, hope it works.......
If anyone has any hints or advice about it I would graciously accept any help.Next step is the cover, heaven help me.....
Now I am late posting so I am nipping over to Lady Dunnit's to see what I have been missing, care to join me?

WOYWW
I have been a little remiss in attending this wonderful weekly treat, there is so much going on at the moment I cannot believe where the time goes. Anyway I am here today and if anyone pops in this is what I am up to. I am making my first mini envelope album and I am enjoying it to a certain degree, but stressing about it also. but that is me in a nutshell. The album is for my grandson who is going to Afghanistan in September (Where did that baby go??) I am trying to make it look like a Filofax from the 2nd WW, yes I know they didn't have them then, but the must have had something similar?
So I have chosen brown's and khaki colours and some muted masculine papers. The photo's show the pages waiting for their hinges, here is the problem, I am rubbish at lining things up straight, so there is a strong possibility this is going to be wonky! But hey ho, it is being made with love and that is all that matters. I am collecting photo's and messages from all close family members to put in the album so he will have us all close by while he is thousands of miles away in combat.
I did want to make it small enough for him to carry with him always, but my husband very gently advised me it would not be safe for him to carry it in case he was captured and the contents used against him. I was heart broken to think of such an eventuality and had to leave the project alone for over a week. Then I hit upon the idea I am following now.
As you can see I am back in the kitchen, crafting, not enough workspace in the shed to spread out.
Hopefully I will be back next week, with further pictures of my progress. I have until September to get it finished. So I am not going to rush it as is my usual trick and then everything goes pear shaped!!
Happy WOYWW.
Now scoot over to the delightful Mrs Dunnit and see some amazing sights.
Thanks for popping by.

WOYWW
More preparations for the retreat. I have got to get the bulk of it finished today ans my husband comes off shift tonight. He is very patient and giving with me, but when I take over our living space as well as my shack it pushes him a little towards his limit. So getting page kits together is the plan this morning. Thank you to Scrappymo for the great "tutorial" on packing for a retreat, it was just what I needed.
Just going to pop across to Julia at Stamping Ground to be inspired by creative ladies world wide. Why don't you join me?
Happy WOYWW.

Getting Ready to Retreat
The living room here at the "Shoebox" is looking a little like a craft shop in distress at the moment. I am getting sorted early for Rosemary Merry's Scrap Camp next week July 6th to 8th. I always seem to forget something and have to rely on Trish to bail me out. So this year I am getting sorted early. All my photo's have been ordered and final batch arrived today. So now I am busy trying to sort papers, cardstock, embellishments etc...
Has anyone any tips for taking "stuff" to retreat's or crops.
