About Me

My photo
I retired on March 11th 2014 after 26 years as a doctors receptionist. I am now looking forward to the freedom to enjoy my days doing anything I wish to. Spending time with family, catching up with friends. Playing in my Scrappy Shack, scrapbooking, cardmaking, art journalling, quilting, gardening, baking. Spending wonderful times with my beloved other half. I am so looking forward to this time in my life.

WOYWW

Yes it's me again, turning up intermittently, full of good intentions. Not had much time for crafting of any sort over the past couple of weeks.

But now my grandson Conor is in Afghanistan and I cannot sleep for thinking about him I thought, I will go a pay an early visit to WOYWW.

Here are some photo's of the finished book I made for Conor to take with him. I gave it to him just before he left. My idea was to produce a book/photo album that a Second World War soldier may have cobbled together. My family and friends thought it was fabulous, but they are not crafters of any sort.

I  am quite pleased with it, a very personal creation made with so much love, there were tears shed on several occasions over the weeks.  Conor was very touched astounded at the secrecy there had been in the weeks leading up to his being deployed and no one had let the cat out of the bag so to speak. The whole family contributed with photo's and letters and even the youngest didn't say anything to him about it.

Family letters in pockets.

My Rosary.

A prayer for Conor's safety.

Finished Book and Bag.
This is the first book I have ever made, it is far from prefect. But made with love and pride and filled with so many family hopes and good wishes it should keep him safe until he is home again in
April 2013.

  1. What a wonderful keepsake for your grandson while he's out there in Afghanistan...made me a bit teary, truth be told. All that family love encapsulated in the book will watch over him, I'm sure - but I know it's going to be a tough few months for you all. So I'm glad my post cheered you a little this morning. Sending hugs,

  5. I hope the weeks fly by 'til Conor is home again. Our Heroes have a very special place in my heart having had 3 family in the army, 1 in the navy, 2 in the police and 1 in the NHS. Thanks for joining my 'gang', I hope you stay interested.

  8. Safe journey and tour to your grandson Connor. what a wonderful thing you have done. Your book will be treasured I am sure. I love that idea of the book bag to keep it safe.
Thanks for the kind comments about my organizing. I know you have been sorting out your craft shed...I remember your posts about it.
I don't have much stamina for heavy work and have to sit to work so I made lists for each day and sometimes it was only 20 minutes 2 times a day. Don't forget my husband had the heart attack so we could not plan much at once.
Bit by bit we got it done...Funny thing is no one has noticed so no praise etc for the reward.
My house always looks great on the surface. I am an expert at keeping the visible parts really organized and clean. It is the back corners of cupboards and under the stairs, the garage, shed etc that seem to collect things we don't need anymore.
All that stuff is finally sorted and donated or given away. YAY.
So if you are still working on yours, just grab a drawer a day...or one shelf a day...that is plenty. I started in May so I worked on it for a long time! teehee Like a snail!

  19. I was visiting your blog for the first time and in scrolling saw this book. It is amazing! I come from a military family, and my sister has now married a soldier of her own. I think this book was extremely thoughtful and wonderfully made! I am so glad it was so warmly received (I would have been surprised otherwise). Kudos to those contributing individuals who didn't peep a word!
