About Me

My photo
I retired on March 11th 2014 after 26 years as a doctors receptionist. I am now looking forward to the freedom to enjoy my days doing anything I wish to. Spending time with family, catching up with friends. Playing in my Scrappy Shack, scrapbooking, cardmaking, art journalling, quilting, gardening, baking. Spending wonderful times with my beloved other half. I am so looking forward to this time in my life.

WOYWW

Today I am confessing to an addiction, I cannot stop buying journals and notebooks. The problem is I then cannot bear to use them!!

Are there any other similar addicts out there?  If there are, can you advise me on how to deal with it.  These two photo's show only those that are in The Shoebox (My home). I also have many in storage and in the Scrappy Shack!

I buy them, stroke them, smell them, but do everything to avoid using them. In fact they are just a symptom of an even bigger problem! The addiction to paper and card has my Scrappy Shack full to bursting.
I would like to use all of these with gay abandon, but cannot.Fear of spoiling a new book comes from being at school. Getting new exercise books at the beginning of the school year. Then blotting the first page with nib pens and black ink.  It ALWAYS happened, right through school.... I think worrying about blotting the books actually ended up sabotaging me.  So I need hints, tips and advice to enable me to open these books and use them.  Cannot think of a better platform that WOYWW provides, thanks to the wonderful Julia Dunnit.

  1. Hi Sheilagh, got sidetracked by the BLUE badge below.
Love the header on your blog - your description of you. Just had to read it out to OH.
I have lots of compulsions, boxes for storage is a biggy with me, I have so many but nowhere to put them. Got quite a few books but not as many as you - by a long chalk.
Maybe Vick S can help you (wink wink)
    Hugs, Neet xx

  5. is it comforting if i tell you you're not alone?
The one person who got me over this 'i-just-can't-use-them' feeling is the fab Donna Downey! One little sentence i had to remind myself often once i started using up my little books:
    it's just a page in a book!
hope this helps you as much as it has helped me!
    have a happy week :)

  9. Argh Sheila, you aren't getting the full on pleasure from these wonderful notebooks. I understand your reluctance, but honestly, use a pencil and dot them in every handbag and places around the house...I do. I really enjoy them, I have a shopping list notebook, a to do list notebook, a crop notebook, a password notebook (oops) a bedside notebook for last minute 'MUST do that tomorrow' stuff...a handbag notebook...it goes on. They are my friends and they don't mind if I deface them....because they have covers to hide in!

  11. Oh girl I fear that the forestry department is going to come after a lot of us here on WOYWW for that same reason! I have a room of stash that I am sure some tree died just to support my addiction! Maybe we should start a Paper Addicts Anonymous? Have a great week. Vickie #32

  15. I'm the same! Apparently you just have to scribble all over the first page - it gets it out of the way and allows you to embrace the rest of the book without fear or ruining it! Getting around everyone eventually. Happy WOYWW #45

  16. I resist the temptation to buy beautiful notebooks 'cos I'd be exactly the same. I think you are so right with the exercise book thing. I like Lisa-Jane's suggestion of spoiling the first page just to get it out of the way though, might have to try that one.
    Happy WOYWW

  17. Hi Sheilagh, I was thinking along the lines of deliberately making an ink-blot on the first page of a journal either that or writing/drawing/doodling something in pencil that way you could always rub it out. You do have some lovely journals :-)
